Translating financial documents in the federal government context can sometimes be confusing, especially when you’re trying to find your way around unfamiliar terms and concepts such as dépense, crédit, and budget.
In this practical and accessible workshop, you will learn:
- how the parliamentary budget cycle works
- who does what, when they do it and why
- which financial concepts specific to the federal context are essential to know
Afterwards, you will be better equipped to use your professional judgment when translating or revising documents containing financial concepts. The knowledge you gain will also help you confidently assess the output from translation tools and avoid common pitfalls.

- Specialists in translation or revision (French to English).
- Prerequisite
- You must already be involved in translating or revising French-to-English texts.
- Language
- The workshop is given in English; however, you are welcome to use the official language of your choice.
- Learning objectives
At the end of the workshop, you will:
- know the stages and key players in the parliamentary budget cycle
- be able to identify and fix finance-related translation problems that can arise in federal government texts, including problems created by machine translation or artificial intelligence tools
