Determining the linguistic profile of bilingual positions – The ABCs of linguistic profiles at your fingertips
This tool has been designed to help managers, as well as human resources and official languages specialists, identify the linguistic profiles of bilingual positions objectively and consistently, while applying the Qualification Standards in Relation to Official Languages. It does not replace the Standards but rather it helps the user apply them.
The tool has two independent components: the general component for positions requiring language proficiency levels A, B and C, and the specialized component for positions requiring code P.
Users are asked to answer a series of questions on the duties of the bilingual position that must be carried out in the second official language.
By using the tool, managers establish a linguistic profile in a manner that meets the requirements of the Directive on Official Languages for People Management. A printable final report presents the profile and the functions associated with a particular position. This report can also be saved as a PDF document.
Burolis
Directory of Offices and Facilities
Burolis lists the offices and facilities of federal institutions and privatized organizations subject to the provisions of the Official Languages Act and Official Languages (Communications with and Services to the Public) Regulations. This directory indicates where the service point is located and stipulates whether or not there is an obligation to communicate with the public in both official languages in accordance with the relevant provision of the Act or Regulations.
System for Official Languages Obligations (SOLO)
The System for Official Languages Obligations (SOLO) enables institutions subject to the Official Languages Act and Regulations to regularly update the list of their offices that provide services to and communicate with the public. Institutions are responsible for updating the data on their offices and service points in the Burolis.
SOLO also allows the Treasury Board to meet its information requirements (mandate conferred on the Secretariat) regarding the status of the Official Languages Program in institutions subject to the Act but not part of the Core Public Administration (i.e. for whom the Treasury Board does not represent the employer). Thus, institutions can enter statistical data on their staff and resources.

Position and Classification Information System (PCIS)
The Position and Classification Information System (PCIS) is designed to collect the information of institutions in the Core Public Administration on various subjects, including official languages. Statistics for the Annual Report on Official Languages are taken from the PCIS at the end of March of each year. Departments must send in their PCIS file each week.
