Together, We Can Improve the Lives of Canadians Across the Country

Canadians recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic need your support, now more than ever. Our most vulnerable communities struggle with food insecurity, income and job loss, social isolation and serious illness. Through the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC), federal retirees can support HealthPartners, their local United Way Centraide or thousands of registered charities across Canada to make a difference.

Every year, federal retirees join forces to support causes they care about through the GCWCC. Together, we’re building stronger communities and healthier people nationwide.

Did You Know?

  • Most Canadians — 82%— make a financial donation to charity.
  • Last year, federal retirees donated over $3.2 million through the GCWCC.
  • Every donation allows us to act now, and, in the long term, support those most impacted by COVID-19.

Why Give?

The GCWCC is an extension of what public servants do: improve the lives of Canadians. In 2020, public servants and retirees gave $29.5 million to charities across Canada as part of the GCWCC. To see how donations make a difference, we invite you to read the following stories about people whose lives were changed by GCWCC donations. Together, we can have a tremendous impact on the lives of those in need.

Manon: Getting a Life-Changing Diagnosis

After 10 painful years, Manon finally heard the words, “You have young onset Parkinson’s disease (YOPD).” Manon was stunned. She knew very little about Parkinson’s at that point. She thought it was something older people got, not a 27-year-old like herself.

“After my diagnosis, I had to adapt to a new reality. Because of my YOPD, I chose not to have children. I'm focusing on my own health and well-being,” she says.

Today, she is taking control of her destiny with the support of Parkinson Canada. Funding for innovative research increases knowledge about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Darquis: Reaching Out and Finding a Family

“A couple years back, I was in a serious work accident and can no longer work. Then my wife died, and I found myself all alone with my son. She was my world and the rock of our family. I felt so lonely. I started hiding out in my basement.”

Darquis found a new family and a reason to connect with others thanks to the network of agencies supported by United Way Centraide.

“I feel like I have a purpose in life. And I want to show my son that there’s nothing you can’t overcome.”
