Retirees

Every year, federal employees and retirees step up to support Canadians who need help the most. In fact, more than one million have proudly donated to the Government of Canada Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) over the past decade — making the GCWCC the largest campaign of its kind in our country.

If you are a federal retiree, we hope you will carry on this proud tradition of generosity by supporting your local United Way Centraide, HealthPartners or another charitable organization of your choosing.

Give Now

Since 2018, retirees can give online through ePledge. This is a simple and safe way to make a donation. You can give via pension deduction, credit card or PayPal. Click here to make your online donation via ePledge.

Did you know?

  • The overwhelming majority of Canadians — 84% — make a financial donation to charity. Our generosity defines us.
  • Last year, Government of Canada retirees donated almost $3 million through the GCWCC. Contributions of federal retirees support everything from reducing social exclusion and poverty to dealing with a major illness.
  • Canada offers some of the most generous tax credits for charitable giving in the world? By giving through your pension now, your gift goes seamlessly to your T4A so your contribution is recognized. It’s never been so easy!

How to Give?

Three simple ways to make your donation:

Four payment methods available to you:

Pension deduction

Spread your donations over the year.

  • Your donation will appear on your T4A slip the following year, so you don’t have to keep track of multiple receipts.
  • You can choose to have your monthly pension deduction continue until such time as you notify the GCWCC (1-877-379-6070) of any changes.

Credit card

Give a one-time credit card donation, or spread out your donation with monthly donations.

  • The charge for monthly donations will occur on the 15th day of each month.
  • You can choose to have your monthly donations continue until such time as you notify the GCWCC of any changes (1-877-379-6070).

PayPal

Make a one-time PayPal donation using ePledge and choose to immediately receive a tax receipt by email.

  • On the ePledge form, checking off the PayPal button allows you to proceed to the PayPal site. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can create one at PayPal
  • The “merchant” name is United Way Ottawa.
  • The charge will occur immediately.

Cheque – via paper form only

Make a single donation, or spread it out with a series of post-dated cheques.

  • Make your cheque(s) payable to “United Way – GCWCC.”

Why Give?

It’s what we do: improve the lives of Canadians.

Rama and her husband, Fares, knew it was time to re-locate to Canada from Syria when it became increasingly dangerous to even walk out their front door. When the family finally arrived in Quebec, it was a huge relief. But they quickly realized they’d need help to get settled. Fortunately, they met some fellow Syrians who told them about a United Way agency that provides information and support to newcomers.

“When I think of the future now, I have hope,” adds Rama, who is incredibly grateful to United Way donors like you who are helping new Canadians just like her receive a warm welcome.

Christina Bailey was 12 when she was diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerulo Sclerosis, a kidney disease. With the help of the Kidney Foundation of Canada, a HealthPartners member organization, Christina was still able to take the big step and go to university. The Foundation gave her information and guidance on how to manage school, provided recipe books to ensure she stayed on a proper diet, and, most of all, gave her the confidence that she needed to spread her wings.

“I am healthy and living life to the fullest,” says Christina. “I am living proof that donating to HealthPartners works.”
