The Government of Canada will contribute up to $3.5 million to the Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games (Toronto 2017 NAIG) and an additional $1 million for team travel.
The Opening Ceremony will take place at the Aviva Centre on July 16, 2017.
The Toronto 2017 NAIG sport program will include 14 sports.
There will be a 5-day cultural festival at two sites during the Games, York University and McMaster University.
It will take 17 sport competition venues to host the Games.
Approximately 5,000 participants from all 13 Canadian provinces and territories as well as several regions in the United States of America will be taking part in the Toronto 2017 NAIG.
There will be over 320 medal presentations with 2,424 medals being presented.
An estimated 2,000 volunteers will help with every aspect of the Games.
Debwe, an Anishinaabe word meaning "the one who speaks the truth", is the official mascot of the Toronto 2017 NAIG. Debwe was created by a 14-year-old student from Deer Lake First Nation located in Northwestern Ontario.
The Toronto 2017 NAIG Birch Bark Canoe Project will bridge Indigenous communities across Ontario by sharing on games, sport, wellness, and culture.
The Toronto 2017 NAIG Mobile Museum Display – 150 Years of Indigenous Sport/Athlete History will showcase notable Indigenous athletes of the past 150 years – celebrating and inspiring past, present, and future generations.
