Semi-annual SSE implementation update

The Defence Team has come a long way since the launch of Canada’s Defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, in June 2017, and continues to build on its principles and the strong foundation that has been established.
In the six months since the last update, significant progress has been made on numerous fronts and a wide range of projects have been delivered, including the:
- changes made to the Reserve Force pay structure;
- launch of Phase 3 of the Veteran’s Service Card;
- successful completion of Operation PRESENCE-Mali;
- conclusion of Canada’s annual northern sovereignty operation, Operation NANOOK;
- declaration of the first Defence Intelligence Integrated Mission Team fully operational;
- launch of the first contest for a Pop up city, as part of the Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program;
- completion of the new Jetty NJ at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax;
- final delivery of the upgraded Light Armoured Vehicle III (LAV III);
- re-establishment of 418 Squadron as a search and rescue operational training unit;
- builder trials for the future HMCS Harry DeWolf; and
- launch of the Defence Data Strategy.

A great deal has been accomplished and important work remains to build on the momentum in implementing Strong, Secure, Engaged to work towards building a Canada that is strong at home, secure in North America, and engaged in the world.
