Canadian military history archive research room
The Directorate of History and Heritage has research facilities that are open to the public.
The reading room will accommodate two people at a time. Members of the public may visit the archive research room on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The appointments will be from 9 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 4 pm. The equipment in the reading room will also be available.
Plan your visit ahead:
- Book your visit at least 10 business days in advance of your visit date. To book, send an email to AHR-RHA@forces.gc.ca.
Archival Documents, Restricted, and Special Collections:
Please contact AHR-RHA@forces.gc.ca 10 business days in advance of your visit date to request your material. Your appointment will be confirmed once the material has been reviewed by the Archival staff.
Please note that access to documents may be affected by the Privacy Act. If material is not requested 10 business days in advance, your documents may not be available for viewing since our staff needs time to review the files.
Day of your visit
On the day of your visit, you are required to follow public health measures.
You must wash your hands with soap and water before handling archival material.

The office is closed on the Civic Holiday and these national public holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Good Friday
