Canadian military history archive research room

The Directorate of History and Heritage has research facilities that are open to the public.

The reading room will accommodate up to five people at a time. Members of the public may book an appointment to visit the archive research room on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The appointments can be made between 9 am and 4 pm. The equipment in the reading room will also be available.

Plan your visit ahead:

  • Book your visit at least 10 business days in advance of your visit date. To book, send an email to AHR-RHA@forces.gc.ca.
  • Please consult our online tool to find material you would like to view and provide a list of archival records at least 10 business days in advance of your visit date.

Archival Documents, Restricted, and Special Collections:

Please contact AHR-RHA@forces.gc.ca 10 business days in advance of your visit date to request your material. Your appointment will be confirmed once the material has been reviewed by the Archival staff.

NOTE

Please note that access to documents may be affected by the Privacy Act. If material is not requested 10 business days in advance, your documents may not be available for viewing since our staff needs time to review the files.

Day of your visit

On the day of your visit, you are required to follow public health measures.

You must wash your hands with soap and water before handling archival material.

Please be aware that we are a scent-free environment and we ask that you use unscented personal care products when you visit our reading room.
