About the Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative

This initiative provides up to $25 million in funding over 5 years to help organizations better serve Black Canadian Communities.

Objectives

  • Create a Canadian Institute for People of African Descent
  • Provide funds to improve workplaces and community spaces
  • Provide funds to help organizations:
    • in areas of governance
    • improve how they run their operations, and
    • to access funding from a larger selection of funding sources
  • Provide funds for emerging federal priorities

The Canadian Institute for People of African Descent

The mandate of the institute is to work on issues that affect Black Canadian communities.

Funding opportunities

  • Call for proposals for up to $100,000 in funding to improve workplaces and community spaces:
    • equipment purchases for work or community spaces and/or
    • renovations or retrofits of existing administrative or programming spaces
  • Open calls for proposals, through Intermediaries organizations, across the country for projects that improve services to Black Canadians
