Mandate
The Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Committee (OHSAC) provides the Labour Program with strategic advice and recommendations on preventing injuries, illnesses, and accidents in the workplace by:
- providing input on the development of national strategies related to occupational health and safety
- identifying emerging occupational health and safety issues and trends in federally regulated workplaces
- identifying opportunities to enhance accident and injury prevention within workplaces
- proposing approaches and strategies such as regulations, guidelines and education initiatives to improve health and safety in federally regulated workplaces
Guiding principles
Focus on occupational health and safety
The primary focus of the Committee is to improve occupational health and safety in federally regulated workplaces - including the legislation, policies and programs concerned with prevention and enforcement. However, other issues relevant to the administration of other parts of the Canada Labour Code can be brought to the attention of the Committee when required.
