Funding: Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women - Eligibility

Note: The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women (AIG-W) pilot project will end March 31, 2023. Applications will not be accepted after this date. If you progressed on or after March 31, 2022, your deadline to submit an AIG-W application is March 31, 2023. You should apply by this date, even if you have not received supporting documents from your apprenticeship authority. The deadline for submitting supporting documents is 12 months from your application deadline date.
In order to be eligible for the grant, you must have successfully completed the first year (level/block) or second year (level/block) of an approved apprenticeship program between April 1, 2018 and March 31, 2023, which is the last date to receive applications.
Project funding for organizations providing supports to women wishing to pursue a career in the skilled trades will be available under the Canadian Apprenticeship Strategy.
To be eligible for the AIG-W, you must:
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
- not be a high school student
- demonstrate registration and completion with acceptable provincial/territorial AIG-W supporting documents
- be registered with a provincial/territorial apprenticeship authority as an apprentice in an eligible designated Red Seal trade where women are underrepresented
- The following 5 designated Red Seal trades are not eligible for the AIG-W:
- Baker
- Cook
- Hairstylist
- Landscape-Horticulturist
- Parts Technician (Parts person)
- The following 5 designated Red Seal trades are not eligible for the AIG-W:
- self-identify as a woman
Eligibility while attending school
You can apply for the AIG-W if you meet the eligibility requirements and you are a:
- registered apprentice enrolled in adult learning classes
- registered apprentice taking professional development courses; or
- Quebec apprentice completing your vocational training
Deadline to submit an application
Progression date between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020
- Application deadline: 18 months from progression date (Note: 6 months extension due to the Apprenticeship Authority shutdown (Covid-19 pandemic))
- Deadline for submitting supporting proof document(s): 12 months from application deadline
Example
If your progression date is March 15, 2020, you have until September 15, 2021, to apply and until September 15, 2022, to provide supporting proof document(s).
Progression date between January 1, 2021 and March 30, 2022
- Application deadline: 12 months from progression date
- Deadline for submitting supporting proof document(s): 12 months from application deadline
Example
If your progression date is February 12, 2021, you have until February 12, 2022, to apply and until February 12, 2023, to provide supporting proof document(s).
Progression date on or after March 31, 2022
- Application deadline: March 31, 2023. You should apply even if you have not received supporting documents from your apprenticeship authority.
- Deadline for submitting supporting proof document(s): 12 months from application deadline
Example
If your progression date is January 12, 2023, you have until March 31, 2023, to apply and until March 31, 2024, to provide supporting document(s).

Apprentices whose first year (level/block) or second year (level/block) progression date occurs after the AIG-W pilot ends on March 31, 2023 may be eligible for the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG).
Receive the difference between the AIG and the AIG-W
Women apprentices who have progressed in their apprenticeship training between April 1, 2018 and March 31, 2023 may be eligible for the AIG-W. If you received the AIG in a trade that is eligible for the AIG-W, you may be eligible to receive the difference between the AIG-W and the AIG payment, which consists of an additional $2,000. If this applies to you, please submit an on-line application for the AIG-W in order to be assessed for eligibility.
