Canada Summer Jobs project overview
Disruption of Canada Post services – strike paused
Canada Post operations have resumed. Tentative agreements have been reached, and Canada Post and its union have agreed not to engage in any strike or lockout activity until the ratification process is complete. Consult the measures in place during a disruption of Canada Post services.
After you apply for Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ), your application's journey has just begun.
You can sign up for the Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) at any time to:
- submit and track your application status online
- sign agreements
- manage the organization representatives
- submit the forms required for your project
Below is an overview of a CSJ project and the steps you need to follow to successfully complete an approved project.
-
1. Application
Follow the Applicant Guide instructions on how to complete the application. It has details on each question and what information is required. Ensure you submit the application as per the instructions.
-
2. Assessment
Once you have submitted your application, we will assess it. You will receive a funding decision by email no matter the outcome. Do not assume any commitment on our part until funding has been approved.
3. Agreement
If your project is approved, the email with your funding decision will provide the documents and instructions required to manage your project, including the:
- approved contribution amount, which may differ from what you requested
- Articles of Agreement , which are legally binding
- links to the forms and questionnaires needed for your project
- contact information of a Service Canada representative
You must advise us if you have issues meeting the requirements of your agreement, if you would like to change any of the details in your agreement, or if you would like to withdraw from your agreement.
If your Canada Summer Jobs project has been approved, please consult Manage your Canada Summer Jobs agreement . This page provides step‑by‑step guidance to help you successfully manage every stage of your agreement, from hiring a CSJ participant to completing your project.
-
4. Employer and Employee Declaration
For each youth you have hired to participate in your approved project, you must submit an Employer and Employee Declaration form. This form is due within 7 calendar days of the participant's first day of work so that we can validate their eligibility.
If you have requested an advance of the contribution funds, we must validate the eligibility of your participants through this form before any funds can be issued.
If you would like to submit this form online, the youth will first need to complete the Employee Consent Form, as online forms will not include youth signatures.
You will find the link to submit your Employer and Employee Declaration form in your approval email.
-
5. Monitoring
We may monitor your project to follow up on your progress towards the project’s expected results. If your project is selected for monitoring, we will contact you to set up interviews with the pertinent employees and youth participants, and to request the required documentation.
-
6. Payment Claim and Activity Report
To complete your project, you must submit a Payment Claim and Activity Report. This form is due within 30 calendar days after the completion of the last CSJ-funded job in order to include all participants. To complete this form, you’ll need to first complete the mandatory Employer Questionnaire, as the confirmation number generated will be required on your Payment Claim and Activity Report.
Once we have confirmed the eligibility of your claim, your final payment will be issued. The amount of your final payment may differ from what you claimed based on the eligibility of the expenses.
You will find the links to the Employer Questionnaire and the Payment Claim and Activity Report in your approval email.
Questions on how you’ll receive your payments? Visit the Manage your Canada Summer Jobs agreement for details about the process, including how to sign up for online payments by direct deposit.
