The proposed Regulations Amending Certain Regulations Concerning Food Additives and Compositional Standards, Microbiological Criteria and Methods of Analysis for Food were pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on November 4, 2023 and will be open for comment until February 2, 2024.
The proposal also includes consequential amendments to the:

- Pest Control Products Regulations
- Safe Food for Canadians Regulations
- Denatured and Specially Denatured Alcohol Regulations
- Pest Control Products Fees and Charges Regulations

Goal of the consultation
Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency are seeking feedback on the regulatory proposal to modernize the regulatory frameworks for food compositional standards, microbiological criteria, methods of analysis and food additives. The objectives of this regulatory proposal are to help make the Canadian food regulatory system more agile, transparent and responsive to new and emerging science, technology, market innovation and risks to health.
