Consultation on Corn gluten meal and its associated end-use products, Proposed Re-evaluation Decision PRVD2022-04

Notice to the reader:

The online consultation is now closed.

Health Canada is consulting Canadians on the proposal to continue registration of corn gluten meal and all associated end-use products registered for sale and use in Canada, with the proposed label amendments.

Corn gluten meal is registered as a herbicide on turf grass, residential lawns, municipal and commercial properties, golf courses, sports fields, parks, sod farms as well as flower, vegetable and fruit gardens. There are commercial and domestic class products registered in solid or granular formulations.

When the label directions are followed, potential risks to human health (occupational, dietary, residential and bystander) and the environment (aquatic and terrestrial organisms) are considered to be acceptable. Corn gluten meal and its end-use products are also shown to have value in providing a pest management solution. To meet the current labelling standards, personal protective equipment is recommended and precautionary and environmental statements are proposed to be updated.

For a full list of products containing corn gluten meal please consult Appendix I in the Proposed Re-evaluation Decision or visit the Pesticide Label Search database.

For more information on the proposed decision open the “Proposed Re-evaluation Decision”.
