Summary
The Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) administers and enforces the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and its regulations.
The purpose of this Compliance Verification (CV) project was to verify industry's compliance of home renovation, decorating and seasonal outdoor products with the requirements of the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 (CCCR, 2001).
For this project, compliance with the CCCR, 2001 was determined through a review of establishment records requested by Health Canada inspectors.
Prior to initiating inspections, the CPSP carried out a market survey to determine the presence of selected companies in Canada. Target establishments were selected from that list of companies and were sent a letter to request documentation under the CCPSA and the CCCR, 2001.
During this project, 32 different products were evaluated for compliance and their CCCR, 2001 documentation was reviewed, where 24 out of 32 were imported products. This resulted in 5 recalls, 8 stop distributions and 7 commitments to address non-compliance. There were 12 instances in which no corrective actions were required.
