Registration decision statementFootnote 1 for potassium chloride

Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, is granting registration for the sale and use of Potassium Chloride Technical and Potash Molluscicide, containing the technical grade active ingredient potassium chloride, for control of zebra and quagga mussels in water reservoirs and other water bodies as well as in water pipelines and closed systems, including fire suppression systems in hydroelectric plants.

This decision is consistent with the Proposed Registration Decision PRD2022-06, Potassium chloride and Potash Molluscicide, which contains a detailed evaluation of the information submitted in support of this registration. The evaluation found that, under the approved conditions of use, the health and environmental risks and the value of the pest control products are acceptable. A comment in support of this registration was received from the National Aquatic Invasive Species Committee under the Canadian Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministers.
