Interim guidance for producing ethanol for use in alcohol-based hand sanitizers: Compliance and enforcement
Health Canada's main goal is to protect the health and safety of Canadians. We assess all safety information about a product or its ingredients to ensure compliance with the Food and Drugs Act or its Regulations. If there is non-compliance, we take the appropriate enforcement action based on the level of risk to the public.
Our compliance and enforcement approach involves using the most appropriate level of intervention to manage the risk to Canadians.
A number of compliance and enforcement action options are outlined in the compliance and enforcement policy for health products (POL-0001). These options include site visits, public communications, recalls and the seizure of products and advertising materials.
If you have information about a potential non-compliance, you are encouraged to report it using our online complaint form.
