Some VACs are opening

VACs are beginning to offer some services. New health and safety measures are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Before you apply, make sure you:

You can submit your passport to a VAC only after you receive a request letter or email from us.

Some closed VACs accept passports sent by mail or courier only. Check your VAC’s website before you send your passport.

Visa application centres (VACs) are private companies that have formal contracts with the Government of Canada. They:

You can:

  • go to a VAC that isn’t in your country of residence
  • either call, email, or visit the VACs in person

You need to give your biometrics

In most cases, you now need to give your fingerprints and photo (biometrics) after you apply.

You need to book an appointment to give your biometrics.

Your information and privacy are protected

  • VACs don’t play a role in the decision-making process and are expressly forbidden to provide you with any visa-related advice.
  • All decisions on applications are made by Canadian migration officers at an IRCC office.
  • VACs don’t represent the Government of Canada. VACs are managed by private companies or international organizations. They’re only authorized to provide specific services to applicants under the terms of a formal contract with IRCC.
  • Protection of personal information is a primary consideration for the Government of Canada when selecting the VAC service provider. Each VAC must protect personal information. Any failure to comply with the terms of the formal contract between the Government of Canada (GC) and the service provider could result in the cancellation of the contract.
  • If you suspect your privacy was breached, report a privacy concern.

    If you think a VAC breached your privacy when it collected or handled your personal information, contact the visa office that is processing your application. Don’t submit your application with your complaint.
