Visa offices (VOs) outside Canada Not open to the public
IRCC visa offices are located in Canadian embassies, high commissions and consulates. They process applications from applicants outside Canada for
- permanent residence
- visitor visas (temporary resident visas)
- study permits
- work permits
- refugee resettlement
- travel documents for permanent residents abroad
Visa application centres (VACs) outside Canada
Visa application centres are private companies that have formal contracts with the Government of Canada. Located around the world, they serve as official locations to give your biometrics (fingerprints and a photo) outside Canada.
VACs also
- securely send your passport to the IRCC office
- speak local languages
Embassies, high commissions and consulates outside Canada
Canadian embassies, high commissions and consulates provide services to Canadian citizens outside Canada or the United States who want to
- get proof of citizenship (citizenship certificate)
- give up (renounce) citizenship
- search citizenship records
Processing centres in Canada Not open to the public
Case processing centres (CPCs), the Centralized Intake Office (CIO) and the Operations Support Centre (OSC)
- receive and process applications (mostly from applicants in Canada)
- are not open to the public
- don’t offer assistance with applications
Most people must apply online.
If you apply on paper, you’ll mail your application or additional documents to these offices. If you don’t know which mailing address to use, check your application instructions.
You can’t choose which centre will process your application. It’s based on the type of application you submit, not where you live.
CPC Edmonton
The CPC in Edmonton processes applications for
- work permits
- study permits
- extensions for
- temporary resident status
- temporary resident permits
- permanent residence applications for
- live-in caregivers
- the Caring for Children and Caring for People with High Medical Needs pathways
- loans for the right of permanent residence fee
CPC Mississauga
The CPC in Mississauga processes applications for
- family sponsorship
- permanent residence from protected persons and Convention refugees in Canada
- permanent residence for the temporary resident permit holder class
CPC Ottawa
The CPC in Ottawa processes applications for
- visitor visa (temporary resident visa) applications submitted in Canada by applicants with a valid study or work permit
- permanent resident visa applications submitted from the United States and Canada (after CPC Mississauga or CIO Sydney receives them and checks their completeness)
CPC Sydney
The CPC in Sydney processes applications for
- permanent resident cards (new and renewals)
- citizenship (new, renouncing, revoking and resuming)
- family sponsorship
CIO Sydney
The CIO in Sydney processes applications for
- the Federal Skilled Worker Program
- the Federal Skilled Trades Program
- the Canadian Experience Class
- the Provincial Nominee Program
- the Start-up Visa Program
- Quebec investors or entrepreneurs
- Quebec skilled workers
- the Self-Employed Persons Program
- Quebec-selected self-employed persons
Most people must apply online. Mailing addresses are available only for applicants who request accessible services to apply on paper.

OSC Ottawa
The OSC processes applications for
- International Experience Canada work permits
- in-Canada temporary resident applications submitted online
- the verification of status
- the replacement of valid temporary resident documents
- the amendment of immigration documents and valid temporary resident documents
Offices in Canada By appointment only
IRCC has offices across Canada. You can only visit one if you have an appointment.
