Submit new documents or information we requested

If you have an application in progress with us, we may ask you to send us new documents or information so we can finish processing your application. You must follow the instructions we give you, or your application may be delayed. If you’re an authorized person managing an application for someone, follow these instructions for them.

Want to submit something we didn’t request from you?

We have different instructions for updating the information in your application.

Submit new information we didn’t request

How we request a new document or more information from you

If we need a new document or information from you, we’ll contact you through your account, by email or by mail to tell you:

  • what we need
  • how to submit
  • how much time you have to submit

We may ask you to submit your document or information:

  • in your online account
  • through our web form

  • create an account so that you can send us your document

We have many accounts with different names and different instructions for using them. Make sure you follow the instructions for the right account. If the account that you used to apply isn’t mentioned in the instructions, it’s because you can’t use it to submit new documents after you apply.

You need to enter some information about the document you want to submit when you upload it in the IRCC secure account. Before you enter the information, check your document carefully to make sure you are not missing anything. Sometimes your document won’t have all the information you need to enter. Enter the information you do have and follow these steps:

  • If there’s no document number, enter “000000”.
  • If there’s no expiry date, select a date that is one year after the date of issue.
