If you submitted or were included in an application for the permanent residence pathway for Ukrainian nationals with family members in Canada, you may be able to apply for
- an open work permit
- a study permit
- to stay in Canada longer as a temporary resident
This new public policy will let you work, study or stay in Canada longer as a temporary resident while your permanent residence application is being processed.

Apply to extend your study permit through our regular application process if you currently hold a valid study permit.
Restore my status and apply for a study permit
If you lost your status less than 90 days ago, you may be able to apply to restore it and get a study permit through our regular application process.
If you lost your status more than 90 days ago
You may be eligible to restore your status and apply for a new study permit under this public policy if at the time we received the permanent residence application you
- had valid temporary resident status, or
- were out of status for less than 90 days
Deadline If your status expired more than 90 days ago, you must apply to restore it on or before March 31, 2026.
Extend my stay as a visitor
Apply to extend your visitor status through our regular application process if you
- currently have valid temporary resident status
- are not applying for a work or study permit
Restore my status as a temporary resident
If you lost your temporary resident status less than 90 days ago, you may be eligible to apply to restore it through our regular application process.
If you lost your status more than 90 days ago
You may be eligible to restore your status under this public policy if at the time we received the permanent residence application, you
- had valid temporary resident status, or
- were out of status for less than 90 days
