Who is eligible for revalidation

To be eligible for revalidation, you must meet these requirements:

  1. You have documents that prove you’ve been incorporated for at least 2 years.
  2. You can prove:
    1. the president or chair (or an equal position), main contact and all representatives with sponsorship signing authority:
      • are eligible to sponsor
      • are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, or have registered Indian status
      • have completed a criminal record check in the last 6 months
    2. there is no information that would keep us from signing a new agreement with you

    We’ll use this information to complete a background check. You must pass this check to be revalidated.

  3. You give us financial statements from your most recent financial year that are:
    1. dated in the last 18 months
    2. audited by a chartered professional accountant (licensed in the province or territory you’re based in)
  4. You pass a financial viability assessment that we complete using your audited financial statements.
  5. Your main contact and all representatives with sponsorship signing authority complete the SAH renewal training. Contact the Refugee Sponsorship Training Program to learn how to sign up.
    1. You must submit valid certificates that show they completed this training by February 1, 2023.

If you’re a new SAH

When organizations apply to become SAHs, we assess and validate them as part of the application process.

If you sign your agreement within 1 year of the next assessment date, we won’t require you to submit another assessment.

If you sign your agreement more than 1 year before the next assessment date, you must do the assessment.
