About the process
Designated learning institutions (DLIs) must now verify documents proving acceptance or enrolment for the following applications:
- post-secondary study permit applications submitted outside Canada
- post-secondary study permit applications submitted within Canada including study permit extensions.
The DLI Portal and compliance reporting
The process for verifying letters of acceptance/enrolment using the IRCC Portal is separate from the DLI Portal. The DLI Portal is used for compliance reporting, specifically to report on the enrolment status of international students.
Accepted documents for verification
The process is referred to as the letter of acceptance (LOA) verification process, but students can submit documents other than their LOAs. The main documents students can submit with their application are
- letters of acceptance
- letters of enrolment
In certain cases, applicants may submit other enrolment-related documents, such as an offer of admission or transcript, in the LOA-specific space of their study permit application. If the DLI is satisfied that the documents they’ve submitted are valid and match with the student’s name and date of birth shown in the IRCC Portal, you should select Verified – Matched.
Why you need to verify documents
The goal of the verification process is to protect vulnerable students and preserve the integrity of the International Student Program.
