Message from the Ombudsman for Ombuds Day

Message from the Ombudsman | 14 October 2021

This year’s theme for Ombuds Day is “Ombuds: exploring options to resolve conflict together.”

Our membership in the ombuds community means we share four operating principles which are accepted internationally:

These principles unite the ombuds’ practice. They enable all ombuds community members to provide distinct value to the institutions and constituents we serve.

We collaborate with the Department of National Defence, the Canadian Armed Forces, and external stakeholders to bring fair resolutions to situations and to create substantial and long-lasting changes within the Defence community.

To the employees of the Office: thank you for your continuous hard work to ensure our constituents receive respectful and fair treatment.

To our constituents: if you feel you have been unfairly treated or need help, reach out. We’re ready to help.

Established in 2018, Ombuds Day falls on the second Thursday in October. We use this day to increase awareness about our office as well as the roles and functions we exercise.

Ombuds Day exists thanks to the efforts of members of the American Bar Association’s Section of Dispute Resolution (ABA DR) and other Ombuds institutions who collaborated on this important initiative.

I look forward to my continued service to you.

Gregory A. Lick
