Remembrance Day
Message from the Ombud | 11 November 2024
Every year on Remembrance Day, we pause to reflect the extraordinary courage and sacrifices Canadian Armed Forces members have made while serving our country. We will never forget their sacrifices, many with their lives.
On this day of remembrance, we take a moment to pause, reflect, and give thanks.
It is also a day to remember the families and loved ones who stand steadfast behind our members. They support and give members the courage to serve our country. Families are, and will always be, the backbone of the Canadian Armed Forces.
This fall marked 80 years since the liberation of Belgium during the Second World War —when our brave soldiers, sailors and aircrew helped the Allied forces defeat the Germans and restore peace and freedom. Tens of thousands of Canadian service members had an important role. Sadly, over 45,000 of them lost their lives.
Today, and every day, we express our gratitude to the brave members of the Canadian Armed Forces for their service and sacrifice.
You make Canada proud. Thank you.
