About the intake process

You can apply to RTRI until December 31, 2028, or until all funding is committed.

Depending on the type of applicant, please select the appropriate section below.

Incorporated businesses

Applicants will complete a detailed application through our online portal.

We encourage you to contact us prior to submitting an application – a PrairiesCan officer can help answer your questions.

Submit an application

To submit an application:

  1. Prepare to complete your application by following the steps listed in Before you apply
  2. Login to the PrairiesCan portal
  3. Complete the application form using the applicant guide
    • Bookmark the page for reference and refer back to it while completing the application form
  4. Attach the required documents:
    • incorporation documents for your organization and proof of signing authority (e.g. bylaws, articles of incorporation, board minutes or record of decision)
    • a business plan or pitch deck providing details about your organization (including management team, board of directors) and details about the proposed project
    • financial statements for the past 2 years
    • interim financial statements for at least the last 6 months
    • confirmation of non-PrairiesCan project funding * (e.g. bank statements, unused portion of lines of credit, official letters of intent, funding agreements, signed term sheets)
    • for liquidity assistance: payroll records and a quantified demonstration of liquidity needs (e.g., cash flow forecasts), employment retention targets and operational obligations
    • supporting documents
  5. Submit the application form through the PrairiesCan portal
    • Before submitting, make sure your organization can enter into legally binding agreements and that the individual submitting is authorized to bind the organization

A copy of the application will be saved into the portal account.

PrairiesCan will not assess incomplete applications or saved applications that have not been submitted.

Submitting an application does not constitute an offer of funding.

* We do not accept the following as confirmed funding:

  • forecasted revenues from future activities
  • accounts receivables
  • commitments to raise equity or to obtain future bank financing
  • Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) credit receivables
Not-for-profit organizations

The application process has two steps:

  1. Expression of interest (EOI): A short online form where you explain your project’s purpose, eligibility, activities and budget. We use it to decide if your project should move to the next stage.
  2. Full application: If selected, we will invite you to submit a detailed application through our online portal.

Submit an expression of interest

To submit an expression of interest:

  1. Prepare to complete your expression of interest by following the steps listed in Before you apply
  2. Login to the PrairiesCan portal
  3. Complete the EOI form using the EOI help guide
    • Bookmark the page for reference and refer back to it while completing the EOI form
  4. Attach the required documents:
    • supporting documents
      • incorporation documents for your organization and proof of signing authority (e.g. bylaws, articles of incorporation, board minutes or record of decision)
      • a business plan or pitch deck providing details about your organization (including management team, board of directors) and details about the proposed project
      • other supporting documentation
    • financial statements
      • for the past 2 years
      • interim financial statements for at least the last 6 months
    • confirmed funding
      • confirmation of non-PrairiesCan project funding * (e.g. bank statements, unused portion of lines of credit, official letters of intent, funding agreements, signed term sheets)
