Who can participate

Eligibility criteria

To submit a declaration and be considered for the program you must meet all of the following conditions:

If you are a member of the Canadian Armed Forces or law enforcement agencies deployed outside of Canada, you are encouraged to submit your declaration before the declaration period ends on March 31, 2026.  However, if you have difficulties  declaring your prohibited firearms due to your deployment, you will be accommodated.  Call the contact centre for more information as soon as possible.

If you live in Saskatchewan or Alberta, please consult your provincial government for any additional laws or regulations that may affect your participation in the program. Collection appointments and options may vary by region and must comply with all applicable provincial laws.

While participating in the program is voluntary, compliance with the law is not. Individual firearm owners must safely dispose of or permanently deactivate their assault-style firearms before the amnesty period ends on October 30, 2026, or risk criminal liability for the illegal possession of a prohibited firearm.

Executors of estates with prohibited firearms

See how to participate in the program if you are an executor of an estate with eligible, prohibited firearms.
