Declarations will be reviewed primarily on a first come, first served basis and accepted based on availability of program funds.

Declaring your prohibited firearms and devices.

There are two types of prohibited firearms that are eligible for compensation.

The registered firearms are those that were formerly classified as restricted.

The unregistered firearms are those that were formerly classified as non-restricted.

If they are registered with the Canadian firearms program, the firearms will automatically appear under registered firearms in your account.

If you possess registered firearms, use the plus button under the options column to review and declare your registered firearms.

Please review the firearm details for accuracy, then select one of the two methods of disposal, turn in or deactivation, then click save.

A notification will appear to indicate the firearm has been successfully added to your claim.

Click close.

You will notice that there are two action buttons under options.

They allow you to edit the disposal method or delete the firearm from your claim.

You will need to select a disposal option for all of the firearms that you wish to include in your claim, then click continue to add manually your unregistered firearms if you have those.

If you possess unregistered firearms, click the button plus add unregistered firearm.

A search box will open on the right side of the screen.

Search your model of firearm by keyword such as DPMS, A-15, or shotgun.

The results will show you all eligible makes and models to help you correctly locate your firearm.

As many models have different variations based on shots, barrel length, or other features, ensure that you choose the correct firearm reference number for your particular model.

Once you have the right model and firearm reference number, you will need to enter the serial number, or you can check the box that says the serial number is unmarked or unreadable.

Select the method of disposal, then click save.

A notification will appear saying that the firearm has been successfully added to your claim.

Click close.

Once all your registered and unregistered firearms are entered, click continue.

If you wish to wait and save your submission in a draft state, click exit, you will be able to come back later.

As a final step, you will be asked to review and ensure all your prohibited firearms and devices have been added to your compensation claim.

You will also see an estimated total compensation amount for all firearms and devices.

If you wish to add more firearms, you can still do it by clicking go back.

If you are satisfied with your declaration, click submit, you will then see a message in the Message Centre confirming your declaration has been submitted.

Please remember that submitting a declaration does not guarantee further participation in the program.

When the collection process is ready to begin, you will receive an email notifying you that you have a message in the message centre of your ASFCP account.

This message will confirm if you have been approved to take part in the firearms collection process in 2026.

If your declaration is approved, more instructions will be shared with you on how the collection process will work in your area.

If your declaration is not approved, you will still have to safely dispose of your prohibited firearms before the amnesty period ends on October 30, 2026.

Learn how to dispose of your firearms on the programs page under disposal options section.

You are encouraged to submit your declaration as early as possible to increase the likelihood of receiving compensation.

While participating in the program is voluntary, compliance with the law is not. Individual firearm owners must safely dispose of or permanently deactivate their assault-style firearms before the amnesty period ends on October 30, 2026, or risk criminal liability for the illegal possession of a prohibited firearm.

If you wish to receive a paper-based declaration to apply by mail, or if you would like to receive information in Indigenous languages (Mohawk, Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), Inuktut (South Baffin), Cree, Algonquin, Dene, or Mi’kmaq), please contact the program contact centre. Paper-based declarations must be post-marked no later than March 31, 2026 to align with program deadlines.
