GenAI chatbot beta

As part of the announced 100-day plan, the Agency has enhanced its GenAI chatbot beta topics to offer more specialized content to help Canadians, especially business owners, to find information faster.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is testing Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technology in our chatbot to expand and improve future services.

What is the GenAI chatbot beta

Since March 2025, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has been testing the GenAI chatbot beta as part of its commitment to modernize and improve client service. This chatbot leverages generative artificial intelligence to help Canadians quickly find trusted information on CRA programs and services, and is available 24/7 on Canada.ca.

Every interaction helps improve CRA’s digital services. Your feedback helps us shape the future enterprise chatbot. Try it, rate the answers, and share your thoughts.

Before you begin

Privacy notice

Do not share any personal details like your name, address, social insurance number (SIN), date of birth, or financial information while using the chatbot. The GenAI chatbot beta is not designed to securely handle personal or sensitive information. During your interaction with the GenAI chatbot beta, your questions may be temporarily retained to enhance your chatbot experience. Your personal information, chat history, or other interactions are not stored or used. For more details on privacy, please refer to our Privacy Statement.

Handling of personal information

Users are advised not to enter personal information when interacting with the GenAI chatbot beta. If you enter personal information during the interaction, the CRA will check to ensure it aligns with section 4 of the Privacy Act. Any unauthorized information will be promptly deleted to reduce privacy risks. The GenAI chatbot beta can usually identify questions containing personal information, which may help in deleting such data.

How to use the GenAI chatbot beta

Follow the steps below to chat with the GenAI chatbot beta.

  1. Open the GenAI chatbot beta

    You will find the GenAI chatbot beta widget in the lower right corner of this page. To start, select the chatbot widget to open a chat session.

  2. Ask your question

    Type your question in the message box, and select the icon or Enter to send.

    To help the GenAI chatbot beta find the information you need:

    • Ask your questions in complete sentences
    • Avoid using slang or jargon
    • Describe your situation without sharing personal information
    • Focus on one topic per question

    If you were unable to get the answer you were looking for:

    • Be specific and clear when asking questions, for example, ask When are Individual taxes due? not, When are taxes due?
    • If you have multiple questions, ask them one at a time.
  3. Share your feedback

    The CRA takes comments and feedback from Canadians seriously and is committed to enhancing its services based on your needs.

    Sharing your experience will help us improve our services. Please take a moment to complete the CRA GenAI chatbot beta survey. The CRA will monitor survey feedback to improve and expand the service in the future.
