Payments the CRA sends you - Direct deposit for individuals

If you have a Canadian bank account, you can sign up for direct deposit through your CRA account or through your Canadian bank or credit union.

Ways to update your direct deposit information

You can no longer sign up for or update your direct deposit information by phone.

Online

Processing time: Once you provide consent through your CRA account, your CRA direct deposit information will be updated the next business day.

Do not close your old bank account until your first payment has been deposited to your new bank account.

Change your direct deposit online using your CRA account

  1. Sign in to your CRA account
  2. Select your Individual account to access My Account
  3. Select Profile
  4. Scroll to Direct deposit
  5. Select Edit
  6. Update your direct deposit information

If you can't sign in to your CRA account

If your telephone number has changed and you don't receive your multi-factor authentication (MFA) passcode to sign in, you will have to use another method.

Make a change for someone else

To change direct deposit information for someone else, including a spouse or family member, you must be their Legal representative and use Represent a Client in your CRA account.

Through your Canadian bank or credit union

Processing time: Once you provide consent through one of these financial institutions, your CRA direct deposit information will be updated the next business day.

If you can't use an online method

The fastest way to sign up for or update your direct deposit information is online with your bank or in your CRA account. You can not update or start direct deposit by phone. If you can't do it online, you can mail in a form, but it will take much longer.

Personal information (including the SIN) is collected for the purposes of the administration or enforcement of the Income Tax Act and related programs and activities including administering tax, benefits, audit, compliance, and collection. The information collected may be used or disclosed for purposes of other federal acts that provide for the imposition and collection of a tax or duty. If you haven't received your payment

If you have not received your direct deposit payment and 10 business days have passed since the payment date of your benefit or credit, contact the CRA at 1-800-959-8281.

Change your direct deposit information with other government departments

The CRA does not administer the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) or Old Age Security (OAS). To update your information for these programs, go to Government of Canada direct deposit.
