Alert for students who applied for Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)

The government introduced proposed measures in the 2021 Fall Economic Statement to provide partial debt relief to students who received, but were not eligible for, the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) or the Employment Insurance Emergency Response Benefit (EI-ERB). Details will be provided as more information becomes available. No action is required at this time.

The Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) provided financial support to post-secondary students, and recent post-secondary and high school graduates who were unable to find work due to COVID-19.

Applicants received $1,250 for a 4-week period for a maximum of 16 weeks, between May 10 and August 29, 2020.

Applicants could also get an extra $750 (total benefit amount of $2,000) for each 4-week period, if they had a disability or dependants.
