When and how you will get the rebate
On October 1, 2024, the government announced that corporations that file their 2023 tax return after July 15, 2024, and on or before December 31, 2024, would also be eligible for a payment in respect of the 2019-2020 to 2023-2024 fuel charge years. Businesses filing after the initial July 15 deadline would receive their payment at a later date, subject to Royal Assent of legislation implementing this change.
You do not have to apply for this rebate. We will calculate and automatically issue the rebate to eligible CCPCs. If you receive the rebate, we will send you a notice.
We have issued the rebate to the majority of eligible CCPCs that filed their 2023 tax return no later than July 15, 2024.
If you are registered for direct deposit, you should see these payments in your bank account as "Canada Carbon Rebate" (note: wording may vary based on financial institution).
Resolve payment issues
Before contacting us, please verify the eligibility requirements.
There could be a number of reasons why you may not have received your rebate on time or the amount you were expecting.
If you did not receive a payment
Your employees may be working in a non-designated province or territory or in a calendar year in which the payment rate is not specified. You can view the designated provinces and the applicable years at Who is eligible.
Other reasons why you may not have received a payment or it is delayed:
- You were not a CCPC at all times during the 2023 tax year
- Your 2023 corporation income tax return was filed after July 15, 2024
- Your 2023 corporation income tax return was your final tax return as part of a dissolution
- Your payment was applied to an existing debt
- Your 2023 corporation income tax return is still being assessed
- Your rebate determination is under review
- Your business information is not up to date: Make changes to your business and CRA program accounts
We also have a comprehensive verification process to detect and prevent suspicious and/or fraudulent activity. To this end, we will be undertaking a review of eligible CCPCs based on risk assessment criteria before payments are issued. As a result of these reviews, some businesses will only receive their rebate after validations have been completed.
If your payment amount is different than expected
Use our online estimator to determine your rebate amount based on your specific circumstances.
Factors that could impact your payment amount:
- The number of employees used in the calculation for an applicable calendar year is incorrect
- The province or territory of employment for some of your employees is not designated
- The calendar year during which your employees were working does not have a specified rate
- You had more than 499 employees throughout Canada in an applicable calendar year
- You have one or more outstanding tax returns
- A portion or all of your rebate may be used to offset existing tax or other government debts
If you did not receive the rebate amount you were expecting for a reason not listed above, contact us.
