You can deduct the cost of office expenses. These include small items such as:

  • pens
  • pencils
  • paper clips
  • stationery
  • stamps

Office expenses do not include capital expenditures to acquire capital property such as:

  • calculators
  • filing cabinets
  • chairs
  • desks

These are capital items.
