Payment dates
If you qualify for payments, you'll be paid the month after your application is approved. Payments are sent on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
Find the list of Canada Disability Benefit payments dates.
If your total yearly payment for the period from July 1 of the current year to June 30 of the next year is $240 or less (which is $20 or less per month), you'll receive one lump sum payment instead of monthly payments. This lump sum will cover the remaining months in the payment period and will be paid on the date of your next scheduled payment.
Payment methods
You can receive payments by direct deposit or cheque. If you've already applied and would like to change how you're receiving payments, contact Service Canada or complete a direct deposit request form.

Keep getting your payments
We'll review your information every year to find out if you're still eligible. You do not have to reapply for the benefit. To stay eligible, you must continue to meet the benefit's eligibility criteria such as having an approved disability tax credit and having filed your income tax return by April 30th every year. For the full list of eligibility criteria go to the eligibility requirements.
Every June, we'll send you a letter to confirm if you're still eligible for the benefit. It will also tell you if you'll receive payments and the payment amount.
Tax information
In February, we'll send you a tax information slip to include when you file your taxes. You don't have to pay income tax on your benefit payment.
If your payments stopped or changed
Your payments can stop or change.
Payments stopped
Your payments may have stopped because:
- you didn't respond to a letter from Service Canada about your situation
- you didn't inform Service Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency of a change in your address or bank account
- your marital status changed
- your family income is now too high
- you stopped meeting any of the eligibility requirements criteria
- you are serving a sentence of imprisonment of 2 years or more in a federal penitentiary
Make sure to tell Service Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency if your situation changes.
Payments changed
Your payment may have changed because:
- your family income changed
- your marital status changed
- you have not paid amounts owed as required by a family support order agreement, some or all of your CDB payments may be redirected by garnishment. Justice Canada is required by the Family Orders and Agreement Enforcement Assistance Act to intercept them
You should receive a letter from us about your change in benefit amount. If you still have questions, or did not receive a letter contact Service Canada.
Pause or stop your payments
If you're considering pausing or stopping your payments, please contact Service Canada for assistance, they will provide you with the necessary information to help you make an informed choice.
Please note that this decision is irreversible, you won't be able to request back payments for the period you paused or stopped your payments. If you decide to proceed, you must submit your request in writing. Please take the time to explore all options available to you before proceeding.
If you have paused your payments, please notify us in writing when you wish to restart them, but if your benefits have been paused for more than 24 months, you will need to reapply for the Canada Disability Benefit.
