Application processing times
We’ll process your application and send you a decision letter by mail.
Allow enough time for your application to be processed before following up with us.
Online: 14 days
By mail: 120 days
When processing may take longer
- You did not submit all required documents
- If we ask for more information
What your letter could include
Approved application:
- the amount you will receive each month
- the date of your first payment
Denied application:
- the reason your application was denied
Request for more information:
- we may need more information to continue processing your application
Check and update your application online
After a decision is made, your application status will be updated in My Service Canada Account (MSCA).
In MSCA you can correct your application or update your direct deposit, mailing address or telephone number.
If you applied by mail, consider registering for MSCA now. This will allow you to check your application status and access other services online.
To update direct deposit and contact information in MSCA
You must first call 1-800-277-9914 to enable this feature in MSCA. You only need to do this once.
If you can't use My Service Canada Account
Contact us to check your application status.
Ask to reconsider the decision
You have 90 days from the date you receive your decision letter to ask for a reconsideration of the decision.

If someone is helping you communicate with Service Canada
You can authorize another person to communicate with Service Canada on your behalf by signing in to your My Service Canada Account and selecting the "Give consent to communicate on my behalf" link.
This does not give someone consent to:
- Apply for benefits on your behalf
- Change your payment address
- Request or change the withholding of tax
