Our mandate
We aim to:
- support the recruitment and retention of financial management professionals
- enhance learning and career development opportunities in financial management
- promote innovative practices and the use of emerging technologies in financial management
- empower the financial management community by fostering collaboration, networking and the exchange of best practices
What we do
To support the financial management community, we:
- collaborate with departments, agencies, communities of practice, and public and private sector partners
- monitor emerging trends and best practices to keep the community at the forefront of innovation
- share insights and knowledge through events, learning sessions, newsletters and online collaborative platforms
- facilitate collective staffing processes to streamline recruitment and placement, and administer professional development and executive talent management programs

Possible areas of work

Accounting operations
Responsible for processing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling accounts, monitoring transactions, and ensuring the accuracy of financial data.
Budget and resource management
Provides financial planning, forecasting, variance analysis, and advice to ensure the efficient and effective use of resources.
Corporate and external reporting
Prepares and analyzes financial reports to meet stakeholder needs, ensuring compliance with legislation and central agency directives.
Costing
Offers advice and tools to support accurate costing practices in compliance with legislative and policy requirements.
Cost recovery
Provides guidance and analysis on cost-recovery mechanisms, including revolving funds, service fees, and vote-netted revenue, to align with policies and directives.
Internal controls
Evaluates financial and accounting processes, systems and controls to ensure compliance, efficiency and effectiveness.
Financial management advisory services
Delivers financial advice and guidance to improve decision-making and ensure responsible use of public funds.
Financial policy
Develops, interprets and implements financial policies and procedures that comply with legislative and organizational requirements.
Financial systems
Manages financial systems, ensuring they support data collection, reporting, planning and compliance with financial policies.
Transfer payments
Ensuring that departmental accountability and controls are in place for the design, management and monitoring of grant and contribution funding, which is used to improve the lives of Canadians across all sectors of society. This area of finance represents over two-thirds of annual government expenditures.
Treasury Board submissions
Provides financial advice and analysis to support the preparation of Treasury Board submissions and ensure compliance with directives.
