Accounting operations
Accounting operations involves overseeing day-to-day accounting functions to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions and reporting.
Budget and resource management
Managing budgets and resources involves providing advice, guidance and financial services in the areas of planning, budgeting, costing or reporting to support sound decision-making and ensure the efficient and effective use of departmental resources across the entire organization, not just for individual budget holders.
Reporting
Reporting involves compiling, analyzing and presenting financial or non-financial information to support decision-making, oversight and strategic planning within an organization and to external stakeholders.
Costing
Costing involves developing costing tools and providing advice, guidance and oversight on costing matters to managers, financial officers and stakeholders. It includes ensuring compliance with legislation, organizational policies and central agency directives.
Cost recovery
Cost recovery involves analyzing and overseeing cost-recovery mechanisms such as internal service fees and revenue-supported activities. It includes monitoring financial flows, evaluating the effectiveness of cost-recovery strategies, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
Internal controls
Internal controls involve designing, implementing and monitoring internal controls to ensure the accuracy, integrity and compliance of financial processes within an organization.
Financial management advisory services
Financial management advisory services involve providing financial advice, guidance and support on financial matters to an executive responsible for a program or corporate service within an organization to ensure the effective and responsible use of public funds. It includes assisting with decision-making processes, assessing financial risks, ensuring compliance with legislation, and aligning with organizational and broader strategic directions.
Financial policy
Financial policy involves analyzing, developing, implementing and applying financial policies, procedures and controls that focus on long-term goals and objectives. It outlines roles, authorities and procedures, and ensures compliance with legislation and organizational direction.
Financial systems
Managing financial systems involves overseeing financial systems or tools beyond end-user functionality, at an enterprise level. It includes leading or participating in teams responsible for hosting and maintaining financial systems across financial management domains.
Transfer payments
Managing transfer payments involves designing, implementing, monitoring and managing transfer payment programs, including grants and contributions, in accordance with applicable legislation, policies and financial management principles.
Treasury Board submissions
Contributing to Treasury Board submissions involves providing financial oversight by reviewing and ensuring the accuracy of financial data, budgets and resource allocations within Cabinet submissions.
