Mission Task
A number of Army Reserve units have been assigned specific Mission Tasks. Members within these units are trained in these specific capabilities and ready to be fully integrated, as a formed entity, into the Regular Force units that they reinforce.
The mission task for our unit is: Light Urban Search and Rescue – A troop of 35 members, which is trained in specialized rescue skills and the use of rescue tools, including search techniques, first aid, and structural integrity assessments, to provide support to civil authorities in situations of urban disaster emergencies.
7th Toronto Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery (7 RCA) is a unit of 32 Canadian Brigade Group (32 CBG), whose task is to augment Canada’s military with trained artillery soldiers.
Our unit requires fit, competent and motivated people with an interest in dynamic and challenging training as artillery soldiers. Primarily, new members are high school or university students with time to work one evening a week and one or two weekends a month during the school year (Sept – May). Within their first few years of service, new members must also be available to attend full-time courses during the summer (Jul-Aug) where technical skills are acquired for employment on operations and training during the part-time training year.
When you join our unit, you will receive competitive pay for your part time or full time work as well as be eligible for on the job training that could benefit you in civilian life. Also, there are medical, dental and educational benefits available to Army Reservists.

The 7th Toronto Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, traces its roots back to the Volunteer Incorporated Artillery Company formed in 1813 under the command of Captain Alexander Cameron. Renamed the 1st Toronto Artillery Company, this unit put an end to the Upper Canada Rebellion on December 5th, 1837 when, under the command of Major T. Carfrae, the company fired several cannonballs through the roof of Toronto's Montgomery's Tavern. The 1855 Militia Act redesignated the company as the Toronto Field Battery, which became the 9th "Toronto" Field Battery in 1895.
In the First World War, 9th Battery fought as part of the 1st Canadian Division until 1917 when it was transferred to the 4th Canadian Division. The 15th, 30th, and 53rd batteries were formed in Toronto in 1916 and were assigned to the 2nd, 3rd and 5th Divisions respectively. Thus, Toronto gunners were represented in all First World War Canadian divisions, and in all the major battles of the latter part of the war on the Western Front, including Passchendaele, Vimy, and Amiens.
