Who We Are
The Royal Regiment of Canada is a Primary Reserve infantry unit based out of Fort York Armoury in Toronto, Ontario, and is one of Canada's finest and oldest light infantry units.
Infantry soldiers are the Canadian Army's primary combat fighters, and are responsible for closing with and engaging the enemy. The primary duties of an infantry soldier are to expertly operate a wide range of weapons, use sophisticated equipment for communication, navigation, and surveillance, operate with support elements such as aircraft, watercraft, and other combat arms elements, engage in unarmed combat, employ survival fieldcraft, and conduct patrols and offensive and defensive operations.
Infantry soldiers continuously train to maintain their combat capabilities, but are also ready to support non-combat operations, including delivering humanitarian aid, peacekeeping missions, and training coalition forces.

Our History
The Royal Regiment of Canada was founded on March 14, 1862 as The 10th Battalion Volunteer Militia Rifles. Through growth and amalgamation, the unit would go on to be renamed several times, including The 10th Battalion Royal Regiment of Toronto Volunteers, The 10th Battalion Royal Grenadiers, and The Royal Regiment of Toronto Grenadiers after being amalgamated with The Toronto Regiment. The unit would adopt its current name of The Royal Regiment of Canada on February 11, 1939.
The Royal Regiment of Canada, and the units that it perpetuates, would go on to participate, in whole or in part, in almost every major conflict and operation the Canadian Militia and Canadian Armed Forces has participated in, from the Fenian Raids of 1866, to the War in Afghanistan until 2014. Most recently, members of the unit have deployed on Operation IMPACT in Iraq, Operation REASSURANCE in Latvia, and Operation UNIFIER in support of Ukraine.
