Upcoming changes to funding programs

Canadian Heritage’s 2024-2025 Departmental Plan was tabled on February 29, 2024.

Changes to certain programs, as outlined in the Departmental Plan, will come into effect starting on April 1, 2024, at the earliest.

The Department will communicate with program clients and key stakeholders, as appropriate, regarding these changes. More information will also be available on the webpages of affected programs in the coming weeks.

The Sport Support Program supports the development of the Canadian sport system. Funding is provided to eligible organizations for programming that is aligned with the goals of the Canadian Sport Policy.

The Sport Support Program is delivered through these components:

National Sport Organization

The National Sport Organization component funds eligible organizations for programming that supports the development of the Canadian sport system.

National Multisport Services Organization

The National Multisport Services Organization (MSO) component funds eligible MSOs for programs and services offered to the national sport community to advance the development of sport in Canada.

Canadian Sport Centre

The Canadian Sport Centre component funds eligible organizations for programming that supports the development of the Canadian sport system.

Community Sport for All Initiative

The Community Sport for All Initiative component seeks to remove barriers and increase sport participation rates for underrepresented groups. Its key objective is to support community sport initiatives for equity-deserving groups, in particular, Black, Indigenous,  2SLGBTQI+, and newcomers to increase participation and retention in sport.

For the 2023-2024 fiscal year, only National Sport Organizations are eligible for funding. For more information please contact: sportcommunautaire-communitysport@pch.gc.ca

Innovation Initiative

The Innovation Initiative funds eligible organizations for the testing of innovative quality sport approaches in order to develop evidence-based solutions to improve sport participation.

Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities

The Sport for Social Development in Indigenous Communities (SSDIC) component funds eligible organizations to deliver sport for social development projects in Indigenous communities in Canada.

You can apply for funding through the SSDIC’s 3 streams:

Stream One

Stream One is reserved for Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Bodies (PTASBs), as well as for the Aboriginal Sport Circle (ASC) to provide leadership and support to the PTASBs for their delivery of the initiative.

Stream Two

Stream Two is open to Indigenous governments, communities, and other not-for-profit Indigenous organizations for projects that promote sport and recreation in Indigenous communities.

Stream Three

Stream Three is open to Indigenous governments, communities, and other not-for-profit Indigenous organizations that specifically support sport and recreation projects serving Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ peoples.
