Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS)
The current COVID-19 challenge call for proposals will close on July 30, 2020 at 14:00 EDT.
New COVID-19 challenge focuses on moral injuries to frontline workers and first responders
As part of the larger pan-government response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program is participating in a multi-departmental initiative seeking innovative solutions to help in the fight. In order to assist in this effort, IDEaS has launched its fourth COVID-19 related challenge.
COVID-19 is leaving an indelible toll on frontline workers and the health care system. Much of this toll is unseen and undiagnosed, as health care workers grapple with moral dilemmas over life and death that leave lasting impacts on their mental health. Our latest challenge looks for new ways to diagnose, prevent and treat the moral injuries left by providing care during a worldwide pandemic. Deadline to apply is July 30, 2020 at 14:00 EDT.
Pop Up City Contest: Winners Moving on to Round 2
The Pop-up City: Integrated Energy, Water and Waste Management Systems for Deployed Camps Contest has announced the recipients of its Round 1 $10,000 prizes! Round 2 integration partnering event will be held where Round 1 winners will present their solution to the Contestants from other technical domains. The Contestants will then have to create teams that will design their best solutions integrating all three elements of a deployed camp (energy, waste, and wastewater).
This partnering event is part of the second of four competitive rounds, each progressing towards the development of a functioning and testable integrated prototype. Contestants are working for the chance to be awarded more than $3.5 million for individual and group competitions.
Thanks to all Canadian innovators who have applied to this first Contest. You can see the list of Round 1 recipients here.
Corrosion Detection in Ships Sandbox Postponed
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IDEaS was forced to postpone the Corrosion Detection in Ships Sandbox until Spring 2021. To ensure that opportunity is available equally and transparently to all, we will reissue the Call for Applications for this Sandbox, likely in in the fall of 2020. This will be open for all Innovators to respond, whether returning or new. Please note that aside from minor amendments such as the new dates and preferred weeks to attend, the application form, criteria, and selection method will remain unchanged.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to your continued interest in participating when the Call for Applications is reissued. Look for the call on our website and via our distribution list email.
For more details, visit our Sandbox page.
