How it works

Innovation Networks are an opportunity to create new networks (or support existing networks) of understanding, stimulate collaboration and allow for the free flow of ideas critical to innovation.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for academics to partner with industry and other collaborators to form Micro-Networks. Each Micro-Network will advance solutions from Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 1 to 6 inclusively, to solve a challenge faced by the Department of National Defence, Canadian Armed Forces, and/or its safety and security partners. (Learn more about TRLs)

What do innovators get?

IDEaS will support interdisciplinary research and collaboration that demonstrates the added value that each researcher, if funded individually, would not have been able to reach alone. We support basic and applied research, technology development and knowledge transfer.

How much funding is available?

Funding is through a non-repayable contribution, with up to $3M available per proposal, for up to 48 months.

Who can apply?

Eligible proposals must include multidisciplinary teams with members from at least three separate institutions and/or organizations, one of which must be a Canadian university that is identified as the Lead Applicant.
