Mandate

LSAC provides the Labour Program with strategic advice and expertise to address policy and operational issues related to labour standards in federally regulated workplaces by:

  • sharing information on issues relevant to Part III of the Canada Labour Code
  • providing input and feedback on the development of national strategies or potential amendments to policy and operational practices, including legislation or regulations related to labour standards
  • exploring areas to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness and provide added value
  • identifying emerging labour standards issues and trends, and
  • providing timely advice and recommendations on the above, as applicable

Guiding principles

Focus on labour standards

The Labour Program seeks to create a strategic and positive relationship with stakeholders in order to improve labour standards in federally regulated workplaces with an overall view of ensuring the successful operation of Part III of the Canada Labour Code. Other issues relevant to the administration of other parts of the Canada Labour Code can be brought to the attention of the committee when required.

Committee membership

The committee is chaired by the director general, Workplace Directorate, Labour Program.

The committee includes representatives of employer and employee groups, academia (subject matter experts) and public interest groups working in federally regulated workplaces. While members participate on behalf of the organization they represent, the opinions shared are not interpreted as the official position their organization unless otherwise stated. Academic and public interest groups may participate on an ad-hoc basis depending on the issue.
