Access to Information and Privacy - ESDC

Important notice: Possible delays in treating your request

Openness, transparency and accountability are guiding principles of the Government of Canada. However, our ability to respond to requests within the timelines mandated by the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act may be affected by the exceptional measures put in place to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and protect the health and safety of Canadians. Access to information and personal information requests received from the public continue to be important to us. We will continue to make reasonable efforts to respond to requests, in accordance with operational realities. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this period as we all navigate these unprecedented challenges.

The Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Division is responsible for the administration of the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act throughout the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) portfolio, including Service Canada and the Labour program.

Submit a request

Requests for records held by ESDC should be submitted under the Access to Information Act and must be accompanied by a $5.00 application fee. Requests to access your personal information held by the department should be submitted under the Privacy Act. Please note that there are no fees for submitting Privacy Act requests.

Whether your request is submitted pursuant to the Privacy Act or the Access to Information Act, your request should clearly indicate the type of record(s) you are seeking and include timeframes where possible. Be as specific as possible and include all relevant information which will assist the Department in locating the responsive records.

Completed Access to Information requests

ESDC posts a list of completed access to information requests online. All requests related to ESDC, Service Canada, Labour, and the Canada Employment Insurance Commission are processed by ESDC and are included in these statistics.
