3. Assessment process

This section outlines the criteria that will be used to review your Application:

The Eligibility Requirements - Mandatory Criteria section indicates what is required for an application to be considered eligible for funding. If it does not meet these mandatory criteria, your application will not be considered further.

Mandatory criteria

1. The completed Grant Application Package was received within the allowed timelines (i.e. no later than 12 months following the reservist's return from active military activity which would include any post-deployment activities that are mandatory, including leave.)

2. All required supporting documents were submitted with the Grant Application Package.

  • 2.1 If the applicant is the employer of a reservist:
    • A document from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) that includes the applicant's business number with the CRA (e.g. tax related document, CRA correspondence, etc.).
    • Pay stubs for 13 consecutive weeks (3 consecutive months) prior to the leave of absence for active military activity.
  • 2.2. If the applicant is a self-employed reservist:
    • A document from the CRA that includes the applicant's business number with the CRA (e.g. tax related document, CRA correspondence, etc.).
    • A copy of the business' most recent financial statements signed by a certified accountant (which includes the 13 consecutive weeks (3 consecutive months) prior to the leave of absence for active military activity).

Eligible recipients

3. The Grant Application Package was submitted by an eligible recipient.

  • 3.1. The employer of a reservist.
    • The applicant is an eligible Canadian employer (i.e. not a federal government, federal agency or Crown Corporation).
    • The applicant has provided a valid business or registration number from CRA (i.e. the business is real and active).
    • The reservist is employed by the applicant and has worked for the applicant for a minimum of 30 hours per week for 13 consecutive weeks (3 consecutive months) prior to the leave of absence for active military activity.
  • 3.2. A self-employed reservist.
    • The applicant has provided a valid business or registration number from CRA (i.e. the business is real and active).
    • The business represents the self-employed reservist's main source of employment/income (and has for at least 13 consecutive weeks (3 consecutive months) prior to the leave of absence for active military activity).

Eligible reservist

4. The employee or the self-employed reservist is a member of the Primary Reserve or Canadian Rangers.

Eligible mission or training

5. The reservist employee or self-employed reservist has been deployed on an eligible mission (i.e. a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) directed operation) or military skills training for service extending a minimum of 30 days).

Grant calculation

Start date of the active military activity.
