Federal Workers' Compensation Service

The Federal Workers’ Compensation Service (FWCS) of the Labour Program administers the Government Employee Compensation Act (GECA).

Workers' compensation programs provide medical treatment and salary protection for employees in the case of a work-related injury or occupational disease.

In partnership with provincial workers compensation boards, the Labour Program is responsible for claims of federal government employees - both inside and outside of the country - who:

  • are injured on the job
  • become sick from an occupational disease, or
  • are slain on duty

The Labour Program also administers claims submitted by certain merchant seamen and federal penitentiary inmates.
