The purpose of this document is to provide registrants, pesticide regulatory officials and the Canadian public with an update on the active ingredients listed in the Re-evaluation Note REV2011-03, Pest Management Regulatory Agency Re-evaluation Initiation Schedule published on 17 March 2011.

Table 1 presents the current re-evaluation status, as of 15 November 2012, for active ingredients included in the PMRA's re-evaluation initiation schedule for 2010-2013. As required per section 16 of the  Pest Control Products Act, initiation for these active ingredients is completed via letters sent to the registrants. This step is also captured in the section 16 notices which are available in the public registry. Project plans for each active ingredient are expected to be published in due course.

Re-evaluation of imidacloprid is ongoing. In addition, imidacloprid, clothanidin and thiamethoxam will be reviewed as a cluster to ensure a comprehensive environmental evaluation regarding the potential for effects of neonicotinoids on pollinators (Re-evaluation Note REV2012-02, Re-evaluation of Neonicotinoid Insecticides).

Table 2 Additional Active Ingredients Initiated Under DIR2012-02
Chemical Name (on PMRA record) CAS. No.
Clodinafop-propargyl 105512-06-9
Difenzoquat 43222-18-6
4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)butyric acid (also known as 2,4 DB) 94-82-6

Clodinafop-propargyl was first registered under the Pest Control Products Act in 1995 and, therefore, is now subject to re-evaluation. The re-evaluation of difenzoquat was restarted following the registrant's decision to reinstate the difenzoquat registration. The active ingredient 2,4-DB was initiated in the first round of re-evaluation under DIR2001-03, but is pending substantial information to complete a proposed decision.
