What to report
The Veterinary Antimicrobial Sales Reporting (VASR) system, which collects sales of veterinary antimicrobials important in human medicine from importers, manufacturers and compounders, has opened. The 2022 reporting cycle marks the fifth year of data collection since the regulations came into force.
Individuals must report annual sales for drugs:
- intended for animal use, containing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) set out on List A
The deadline to report sales for 2022 is March 31, 2023.
Definitions
- Importers
- are anyone importing such a drug into Canada for sale.
- Manufacturers
- are anyone who sells such a drug in Canada under their own trade name or mark controlled by them.
- Compounders

(may include veterinarians or pharmacists) are anyone who compounds a final product for veterinary use with any of the following inputs:
- an API set out on List A, such as the raw ingredient
- a human drug in dosage form containing an API set out on List A
- for example, products with a drug identification number
- a veterinary drug in dosage form containing an API set out on List A, especially when compounded for use in food-producing animals
- for example, products with a drug identification number
