ARCHIVED - Drug Analysis Service Mandate

The Drug Analysis Service's (DAS) mandate is to provide quality scientific and technical services in support of Canadian police forces, border services, some Health Canada divisions and representatives of the criminal justice system to assist with the enforcement of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Regulations, and other Acts applied by the Department. The parameters of DAS' activities are defined by several Acts of Parliament, including:

The Drug Analysis Service analyzes seized materials, provides training to law enforcement officers and staff as well as scientific knowledge on illicit drugs and precursor chemicals, in addition to providing assistance to Canadian police forces in the investigation and dismantling of suspected clandestine drug laboratories  in order to ensure they are dismantled in a safe manner. DAS also provides expert testimony in court.

As Canada is committed to the   United Nations Drug Control Treaties, DAS also works with International partners for the recommendation of appropriate and scientifically sound drug analysis procedures that will be used in other countries.
