After you apply
What happens next depends on if this is a new or existing TRV application.
If you’re applying for a new TRV
After you submit the application for a temporary resident visa (TRV), we’ll verify that the information on the TRV application matches the information that was submitted in your web form submission. If the information matches, we’ll review the entire application for completeness and begin processing it.
If your application passes the eligibility stage, we’ll contact you with next steps and provide information about exiting Gaza.
If you have an existing TRV application in progress
We’ll check your
- information
- documents
- eligibility to be processed under these special measures
If your request meets the requirements, we’ll process your existing TRV application under the special measures. If your application passes the eligibility stage, we’ll contact you with next steps and provide information about exiting Gaza.
If your request does not meet the requirements under the special measures, we’ll process your application as a regular TRV application.

Completing your application: Biometrics and admissibility
Before we can approve your application, we need to
- collect your fingerprints and photo (biometrics), if you need to provide them
- make sure you’re admissible to Canada
Given the situation, we understand that you won’t be able to give your biometrics or complete a full admissibility check until you’ve left Gaza.
If your application passes a preliminary eligibility and admissibility assessment, we’ll forward your name to the local authorities to facilitate your exit from Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.
The Government of Canada
- doesn’t decide who can leave Gaza
- can’t guarantee that you’ll be authorized to cross the Rafah border
If you left Gaza on your own and are currently in Egypt
You should make an appointment with the Embassy of Canada in Cairo to finalize your application and submit your biometrics.
Your fingerprints and photo (biometrics)
We need to collect your biometrics if you
- are between the ages of 14 and 79
- haven’t given your biometrics in the last 10 years
Your deadline to give biometrics
If you’re still in Gaza, your biometric instruction letter will not expire after 30 days, and your application will not be affected.
You don’t need to contact us to get a new letter or to ask for an extension.
However, if you’re already outside of Gaza and the deadline in your letter has not yet passed, you should follow the instructions in your biometric instruction letter.
Assessing your admissibility
After you submit your biometrics, we’ll complete your security screening to make sure you’re admissible to Canada.
