The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, will be the guest speaker at a luncheon hosted by the C.D. Howe Institute on Thursday, April 10, 2008. The event begins at noon and the Minister will speak during the course of the lunch.
Today, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health, was joined by the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, and the National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO) CEO Dr. Paulette Tremblay to unveil a new Web site to help combat suicide among Aboriginal youth. Called the Honouring Life Network, the site is targeted at both Aboriginal youth and suicide prevention workers in First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.
Canadian Coast Guard resources are continuing efforts today to find and bring home Mr. Carl Aucoin, the missing crewmember of L'Acadien II, and to recover the vessel.
On February 12, 2008 in Corner Brook Provincial Court, Mr. Wilfred Strickland of Frenchman's Cove was fined $1,000 for possession of egg bearing female lobster. He was also fined $500 for fishing lobster without a licence and $500 for possession of cod caught in contravention of the Fisheries Act. Mr. Strickland's dory and outboard motor were forfeited to the Crown. All lobster seized were returned to the water.
