Access the Canadian Biosafety App

The Canadian Biosafety App lets you see the Canadian Biosafety Standard (CBS) requirements specific to your facility. The Canadian Biosafety App version 3.0 has been updated to include the CBS, Third Edition.

App features

The app includes the requirements from the CBS, third edition. It also includes features such as:

  • filtering requirements for different settings
    • laboratory
    • prion work area
    • large scale production area
    • small or large animal containment zone
  • filtering biosecurity requirements
  • checkboxes for the verification status of requirements
  • sorting requirements by status
  • adding notes to the displayed requirements
  • searching keywords within a location's list of requirements
  • saving and exporting requirement checklists for different locations

Accessing your checklists

When using the online version, the requirement checklists that you create for your facility are:

  • stored in the web browser history (that is, local cache) of the device that you use to create the lists
  • accessible only from that device and browser

Clearing your browser history will delete the stored requirement checklists and any related information.

When using the mobile version, the requirement checklists that you create for your facility are:

  • stored in the mobile app (that is, mobile device's local storage)
  • accessible only from the device that you use to create the lists

Deleting the app from your device will delete the stored requirement checklists and any related information.

App versions

The online version of the Canadian Biosafety App version 3.0 is now available to create new lists for your facility.

In addition to the app features described above, the mobile version of the Canadian Biosafety App version 3.0 can be used offline and provides a full-text view of the CBS. The mobile version is available as a free download for the following devices:

Note: The online version of the CBS Biosafety App version 2.0 has been archived as of April 1, 2023. However, you can still use it to view historical location data if:

  • you use the same device and browser that was used to create the data for your facility
  • the data has not been cleared from the browser history of the device
