Contact Problem Resolution
The confidentiality provisions of the various acts administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) prevent the disclosure of taxpayer information to unauthorized individuals. For us to release taxpayer information to your office, please ensure that:
- You submit Form RC161, Authorization for Parliamentarians, fully completed, dated and signed by the constituent.
- Authorization validity: Form RC161 is valid for six (6) months or until the authorized issue is resolved, whichever comes first. A new form is required if a different issue arises.
- You identify yourself and your constituency office.
- Provide all necessary supporting documents related to the issue. For example:
- For address updates, include a completed RC325 form.
- For CCB applications, provide a completed RC66 form.
- For a DTC application, submit a completed T2201 form.
If your enquiry is for general information and does not require access to specific taxpayer information, then Form RC161 is not required.
Checklist
Please review the checklist below to make sure that your enquiry is ready to be actioned by the CRA:
- You verified the constituent’s identity. The constituent attempted to resolve the issue through normal CRA channels.
- The constituent signed and dated the RC161, Authorization for Parliamentarians.
- The issue and reason for priority are clearly described on Form RC161. Indicated on the RC161 the reason why the constituent chose to come through a Member of Parliament’s (MP) office instead of going through the normal channels (for example, has tried the normal channels, has trouble navigating the CRA webpage, has a language barrier).
- The information requested was not available on the MP constituency office web page.
- All supporting documentation are attached.
Although we strive to resolve all cases promptly, failing to verify each step outlined in the checklist may impact our ability to meet service standards.
