Contact Problem Resolution
The confidentiality provisions of the various acts administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) prevent the disclosure of taxpayer information to unauthorized individuals. For us to release taxpayer information to your office, please ensure that:
- You submit the most recent Form RC161, Authorization for Parliamentarians, completed, dated and signed by the constituent. Note: An authorization form is valid until the matter related to the authorization is resolved. If an additional issue arises, a new RC161 form must be submitted.
- You identify yourself and your constituency office.
- The corresponding form relating to your enquiry, for example, a CCB application (RC66) or a Disability tax credit certificate (T2201) is also completed and sent with the signed RC161.
If your enquiry is for general information and does not require access to specific taxpayer information, then Form RC161 is not required.
Checklist:
Please review the checklist below to make sure that your enquiry is ready to be actioned by the CRA:
- Verified the constituent's identification before working the case.
- The constituent tried to resolve the issue through normal channels.
- The constituent signed and dated the RC161, Authorization for Parliamentarians.
- Specified on the RC161 what the issue is and why it is a priority.
- Indicated on the RC161 the reason why the constituent chose to come through a Member of Parliament’s (MP) office instead of going through the normal channels (for example, has tried the normal channels, has trouble navigating the CRA webpage, has a language barrier).
- The information requested was not available on the MP constituency office web page.
- Attach all the supporting documentation.
Although we strive to resolve all cases promptly, failing to verify each step outlined in the checklist may impact our ability to meet service standards.
